About Us
Bolpur Oikantik Society
Who We Are:
On 10th December 2017, a group of well-wishers—generous, enthusiastic, and socially conscious—came together with a shared vision: to work for the development and welfare of the poor and underprivileged in our society. Rooted near Santiniketan, the land forever associated with the love and ideals of Rabindranath Tagore, this group drew deep inspiration from Tagore’s philosophy of rural upliftment.
Guided by his principle of “Help the people”, Bolpur Oikantik Society began its journey with a commitment to empowering the disadvantaged tribal communities in and around the Bolpur–Santiniketan region. Our mission is to ensure these communities are aware of their rights, can access essential services, and are able to raise their voices to the appropriate authorities. We aim to help them build healthier, more sustainable lives and equip them to solve their own problems with dignity.
For the first three years, we operated informally, building trust and engaging with local people on the ground. On 13th August 2020, Bolpur Oikantik Society was officially registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act. This milestone laid the foundation for us to function as a full-fledged organization dedicated to grassroots community development.
Over time, many like-minded individuals have come forward, offering their time, knowledge, and resources to support and expand our initiatives. Bringing together people from marginalized communities and involving them in our work has not been easy. But today, what once seemed like a distant dream has turned into a growing movement—thanks to the love, encouragement, and support of people like you, and the dedication of our members.
We are deeply grateful and hope you will continue to stand by us in the days ahead as we walk together toward a better, more inclusive future.
